文同（1018－1079），梓潼人。字與可，號錦江道人、笑笑先生。精詩文書畫，畫善墨竹，後來畫竹者多宗之，稱為湖州派。是軸為文同鼎盛期傑作，竹枝栩栩如生，表現惟妙惟肖，滿幅筆力雄渾，予人氣勢磅礡之感。

雄渾にして瀟洒な筆致の墨竹において迫真の評をほしいままにした文同の、最盛期の一大傑作です。左上方から右下方へと重厚な筆づかいの竹幹がうねり、墨の濃淡を巧みに駆使して鋭い筆線で竹葉を配し、竹のもつ不変の生命力を描ききります。歴代、墨竹の規範と仰がれます。

Wen T'ung : Ink Bamboo

Wen T'ung (1018-1079) was a native of Tzu-t'ung, Szechwan province. His style name was Yu-k'o, and his sobriquets were Chin-chiang tao-jen and Hsiao-hsiao hsien-sheng. He was talented in poetry, prose, calligraphy and painting, but excelled especially in painting. His ink bamboos executed in vigorous and refined brushstrokes were commented on their realism. This piece is a representative monumental work from the zenith of Wen T'ung's career. The painting, which is a marvelous depiction of the lively forms of the bamboo, exerted the greatest influence on later periods as the standard of its genre.
